Filling a Void

The National Football League is, by every measure, the most successful of all the pro sports leagues in the United States, if not the world. Even in these sweltering dog days of summer, when baseball should be king, the NFL dominates the headlines. You can argue the reasons, gambling, etc., but tune into ESPN , Fox Sports, CBS Sports, Peacock, or any one of a myriad of websites and podcasts, and you will hear football talk. Media wags the dog. Its true in all sports of course, and having pundits drive the discourse leads to interest and interest leads to more coverage and so on. While squash will never be able to compete with bigtime sports, the fanbase is large enough to make driving to conversation worthwhile. We desperately need people and outlets to do just that. There is no “First Take” for squash ( Stephen A going at Diego Elias for quitting multiple times on court would be amazing btw!) so podcasts have been filling the void. The idea behind the Squash Podcast Network is to cross promote and increase exposure for these shows. We are starting with three, SQR, Squash University and the Rally Report, and hope to grow as we get our footing and learn more about the business of media. We will make mistakes along the way, because, to be perfectly transparent, we have no idea what we are doing! We do know that we love the sport and the personalities that drive it, and while our mission is not necessarily to get new people interested in squash, although that would be great, but more so to engage with the passionate fans that keep the game alive! Much more to come!
