Gilly Lane

Gilly Lane C’07, one of the most accomplished figures in University of Pennsylvania squash history, has served as head coach of Penn men’s squash since 2016. Under his leadership, the Quakers have emerged as a national powerhouse, winning two national championships—including the program’s first-ever in 2024—and securing three Ivy League titles, with the first undisputed crown coming in 2022. Lane has guided Penn to an overall record of 117-28, including a perfect 20-0 campaign in 2024–25. His teams have claimed landmark victories over traditional juggernauts like Harvard and Trinity, developed numerous All-Americans and Ivy League award winners, and consistently ranked among the nation’s best with multiple CSA Potter Cup final appearances.

Before becoming head coach, Lane held assistant and associate head coaching roles at Penn and played a key part in the success of both the men’s and women’s programs. A Philadelphia native and former professional player, Lane reached a world ranking of No. 48 and represented the U.S. at both the Pan American and World Championships. As a student-athlete at Penn, he was a four-time All-American and the first Quaker to receive the CSA’s Skillman Award. Lane lives in Springfield, PA, with his wife Stephanie—who played lacrosse at Drexel—their son Landon, and twins welcomed in 2024
